It's that time of the year that your car needs to be in its best condition to hit the road for the vacation drives and withstand high summer temperatures. Get it prepared so this will be one less thing you can worry about. Here are some things you need to check to ensure your car is ready for summer.
Check the Tires
As the weather warms up, your tire pressure increases, and if they haven't been checked for while or at least since winter, it's time to get them evaluated and inflated properly for maximum safety and fuel efficiency. Additionally, have the mechanic check your tread depth and look for signs of uneven wear.
These guidelines are found inside your driver's door frame or your owner's manual. You can also ask a trusted mechanic if you're not sure how much air is supposed to be in each tire.
If you plan to drive long distances you should have one well-inflated spare tire
Check the Air Conditioning System
It's important to have functioning air conditioning to keep drivers and passengers cool and safe on the road during hot weather. If you need A/C to function properly, make sure your vehicle's system is charged with coolant and that all of the hoses and components are in good condition. Also consider having your A/C serviced by a professional. Be sure your radiator cap is securely fastened so that coolant does not leak out.
Check Exterior Lights
Ensure that your headlights, brake lights, turn signals, taillights, fog lights, and side mirror lights are working. You wouldn't want to drive around with poor car lighting, get in trouble with the cops during your vacation drives, or get into accidents because of non-working lights.
